Every End is a New Beginning

You may be wondering why a person would want to do something seemingly so tough as reinvent their life. It's a fair question. Here's my thoughts on the matter: When you find yourself tired, sick of being tired, lower energy than you'd like, feeling like all your best moves just don't work and as if the path to your dreams looks like Simon from American Idol has just planted land mines all in it...and they're exploding...know what I mean? First off, you're not alone. No matter how accomplished or professional or whatever - rich, poor, middle - whatever - you need to know you are not alone.

Many people today report feeling less satisfied with their lives than ever before...no not middle ages unsatisfied or living in Darfur unsatisfied but as if your potential is being wasted - like your true self is always being put last and work is always stealing away your best. You may not be in shape, physically or mentally. You may not have control of yourself the way you'd like to. Or your ability to overcome obstacles may seem stuck.

The good news is you are not in the middle ages and you have unprecedented access to tools to make your life exactly what you want it to be. The question is, will you do something about it?

I don't mean wish for it, want it, desire it...these will get you nothing. I mean DO something. Will you?

Getting out of the Rat Race IS Possible

Now is the time to crank up that entrepreneurial engine of hope and start thinking about creating a life you love, not schemes to keep the old thing on life support. The old way is just that and there is nothing you owe it. Just leave. Move on. Decide you're not going to drag that brick around any longer! You must realize that if we ignore the fundamental laws that govern the way we live, we won't make it. "What can I provide that people truly need today?" "How can I leverage my true asset and turn it into value?" The root cause for today's pressure is a failure to leverage our true assets to provide needed value. If you want to find out what your true asset it, read on.

It Starts With a Small Step

Yes it starts with YOU. Your life is just a reflection of what you allow it to be. So if you are intent on reinventing your life, which I'm saying you have to do to survive, you'll have to start with changing your thinking about what you really want.

Good News #1: You get what you focus on. I'm always amazed that people can tolerate the intolerable and then have the brass to turn around and complain about it all the live long day! If you don't like the fish you're catching CHANGE THE BAIT! But we don't know this. We are too busy to think about this and besides change is hard and scary and there's always the potential that rocking the boat will make it WORSE.

Yep and that's just FEAR trying to keep you frozen in the past. I'm not talking about rocking the boat...oh much more violent than that. I'm talking about draining the whole freakin ocean and building a 36 hole 5-star golf resort...for the next 1000 years!

Your life can be just like this. And I'll show you how. But first...

See It In Action

Here's a story from my personal experience to illustrate what I mean. I was working in the music industry before I became whatever it is that I am now - consultant, coach, activist...not really found a label that works...probably why I don't like labels.

Anyhow, I was a musician, playing trumpet around the nation. I loved to play just about any style - jazz, classical, modern, show tunes, you name it. If it was well written and with a good ensemble, I loved it. In fact, I performed in New York City at the Lincoln Center's Avery Fischer Hall during the Mostly Mozart Festival. We had a packed house and it was rumored that Madonna and other such artistic luminaries were in attendance.

Not what I wanted to hear...

The show was a big hit and I was planning my next career moves. Then a took a trip to London where something heart stopping happened.

I met a friend of a friend named Linda. She was a very kind woman about the age of my mother and had the kind of countenance that you just knew you could trust.

Well as it turns out Linda felt she had some insight for me and my future and she proceeded to tell me that she thought I'd make an excellent teacher and in fact was destined to do so.

ICK!!!!!!

Say what????? You must be joking!!!!!

You see everyone in the music world has this little wicked, and I might add unfair saying: "Those who can make it as performers, just teach."

The Path Less Traveled

This was like that beautiful girl in high school telling you how great your personality is and how she just wants to be your "friend." Translation: You're not cool or attractive and I'm never going to speak to you again!

Uggg.

Even worse I was a very good performer and loved it.

But you know what happened? In the next 6 months I had no less than 5 opportunities to teach in very prestigious locations. Know what else? I loved it. Instantly. I was stunned and some how Linda's divine insights were true.

So it was time to reinvent my life. And I asked myself some very strategic questions - questions I'll share with you in this class. The answers to those questions have made all the difference in my life.

They have led me to places I never dreamed of...never thought possible. You see when we are willing to let go of the tired old ways and open ourselves to the future that risk is rewarded over and over again.

In fact, had I not gone down the teaching path, I would have never met my wife, never had wonderful children, never started Beck Consulting or Total Integration and wouldn't be writing this letter to you.

Aligning our actions with our true values, our true assets and nourishing them with skills that bring fulfillment is what I mean by "reinventing" - it is thematic living....it's about honoring your path, respecting yourself, and being present to a dynamic life.

That's what success is all about.
